Breast Imaging Department Overview

The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital's Breast Imaging Department is a dynamic and friendly team that is part of the QSI Accredited Radiology Department. We are one of the 23 Trusts in the UK to have this accreditation, demonstrating our commitment to excellence in breast imaging.

We have a fully integrated RIS and PACS system with full field digital technology, including Tomosynthesis and Contrast Enhanced Spectral mammography. This allows us to provide high-quality imaging services to our patients.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Use highly specialised knowledge to image the breast, producing images of consistent high quality while minimising exposure to radiation.
  2. Observe the code of professional conduct of Radiographers as suggested by the Health Professions Council and the Society of Radiographers Code of Professional Conduct, local Trust policies, protocols, and guidelines to ensure a high standard of professionalism and patient care.
  3. Comply with the current legislation relating to Health and Safety and Radiation Protection.
  4. Ensure attendance at the statutory training sessions.

Clinical Responsibilities

  1. Work unsupervised and, when required, in a supervisory capacity with an assistant practitioner in a mobile or static screening clinic, responsible for the smooth running of the clinic.
  2. Document clinical observations and use own judgement to clinically recall women to assessment.
  3. Recognise abnormalities on mammography and seek advice from radiologist regarding further imaging when appropriate.
  4. Communicate with patients daily who need reassurance due to anxiety about the screening process, recall or their condition.
