Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Public Health Director to join our team at the London Borough of Merton.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading our public health strategy, working closely with stakeholders across the council, NHS, and voluntary sector to improve the health and wellbeing of our residents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement effective public health strategies to address the needs of our population
  • Lead on improving the health and wellbeing of our residents, reducing health inequalities, and promoting healthy lifestyles
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to deliver joint projects and initiatives that benefit our community
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on public health issues to inform decision-making across the council
Person Specification

We are looking for a candidate with:

  • Proven experience in public health leadership and strategy development
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and evidence
  • A deep understanding of public health principles, policies, and practices
  • Familiarity with local government structures and processes
