About the Role

The Senior Shift Manufacturing Lead plays a vital role in ensuring the effective delivery of daily performance within our Bournville Plant, home of Cadbury's. As a key senior shift leadership position, this role requires coaching and motivating staff at multiple levels to meet defined KPIs and Operational targets.

This position identifies and influences the implementation of continuous improvement opportunities and loss elimination, while ensuring sustained technical mastery and line leadership in manufacturing. The role also involves leading a key line of the business to deliver results defined by the compelling business need of the site.

Responsibilities

  1. Accountable for performance and people on shift – SQCDM
  2. Responsible for morale, conduct, and behavior of shift team
  3. Decision maker for escalations on shift
  4. Escalate safety, quality, and production losses outside of shift according to escalation matrix
  5. Ensure safety of team, quality of products, and drive safety and quality improvements across shift team
  6. Compliance to Daily Management Systems on shift escalating as appropriate
  7. Drive IL6S on shift and be accountable for AM step delivery for a line/area
  8. Direct manager for shift coaches and shift managers including performance reviews and objective setting
  9. Ensure timely response to breakdowns and compliance to PM tasks
  10. Develop operators and technicians through delivery of objectives and personal development plans
  11. Complete shift reports and handovers, setting next shift up for success
  12. Facilitate RCAs on shift for triggered losses, identifying and delivering/supporting preventative measures
  13. Facilitate Small Group Activities/Problem Solving Groups on shift to drive improvements
  14. Complete investigations for safety and food safety incidents
  15. Work with days-based teams to drive long-term improvements
  16. Own absence management including scheduling and hearing stage review meetings, ensuring RTW completed
  17. Ensure delivery of training to operators to ensure cross-site flexibility
  18. Champions one model/strategic line/area to drive improvements
  19. Workforce planning for own shift and looking ahead to other shifts
  20. Working with trade union representatives to resolve challenging situations
  21. Handling and conducting investigations re HSE, incidents, ER, and disciplinary hearings
  22. Organize, support, and deliver Line Briefings and other communications
  23. Responsible for overall GEMBA across all areas of the shift
  24. Develop and implement shift engagement improvement plans, measure through engagement survey
  25. Support internal and external audits while on shift – QP, X assessment, SMETA, ISO50001 etc

Requirements

  1. Proven track record of successfully managing teams of people in a manufacturing environment
  2. Role model for conduct and behavior – GMP, safety, professional conduct, integrity
  3. Effective communicator both verbal and written
  4. Ability to build and retain relationships at all levels and across all departments
  5. Understanding of IL6S and how to implement across the shifts
  6. Confident decision maker
  7. Ability to think on their feet
  8. Labor planning experience
  9. Presence to confidently take control of situations requiring decisions impacting production
  10. Experience of working with Trade Unions
  11. Previous experience of handling investigations and disciplinaries
  12. Experience of conducting RCAs and implementing actions from findings
