Job Purpose

The purpose of this role is to fit, operate, and maintain on-track machines (OTMs) in a safe manner, adhering to the Competency-Based Standards for Fitters, Operators, and Maintainers. Full training will be provided to the successful candidate.

Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for booking on and off duty at the designated time and place.
  • Maintain clear and open communications with the Rail Plant Control Room-Help Desk.
  • Work to a safe and competent standard, absorbing and retaining knowledge trained on.
  • Carry out emergency procedures as required.
OTM Operating
  • Full training will be given on the operation of OTMs.
  • Responsible for repairing service faults and failures, reporting them immediately to the Rail Plant Control Desk-Help Desk.
  • Operate OTMs in accordance with Railway Standards.
  • Carry out maintenance and safety checks, assisting specialist Fitter staff when fixing machine breakdowns or problems.
Fitting
  • Assist Specialist Fitter staff in carrying out all aspects of maintenance.
  • Responsible for the immediate verbal reporting of machine faults and failures to the Rugby Rail Plant Control Desk.
  • Complete all maintaining duties under the Maintenance Fitter Assessment Scheme.
Person Specification
  • Good knowledge of computer and phone skills, including Windows, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Flexible, honest, and punctual.
  • Certified in Vehicle, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
  • Good communication skills.
  • In possession of a clean full and valid road vehicle driving license to drive company vehicles.
  • Willing to continue learning and be trained.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and sense of professional pride.
  • Able to perform weekend and night shift duties.
  • Mechanically minded.
  • Team worker.
  • Good knowledge of computer/phone skills.
