At North London NHS Foundation Trust, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Clinician in Emergency Psychiatry to join our team at Highgate Mental Health Centre West. With a strong background in acute/emergency psychiatry for general adults and the older adult population, this 12-month fixed-term position offers a unique opportunity to lead and contribute to the development of our services.

About the Role

The successful candidate will work closely with our multidisciplinary team, providing strategic clinical leadership and contributing to the strategic direction of our unit. This role involves working flexibly across two exciting new services: the Mental Health Crisis Assessment Service (MHCAS) and the Health-Based Place of Safety Service (HBPOS). You will also work across liaison services and inpatient services within the Highgate Campus as needed.

You will be responsible for providing day-to-day clinical leadership to an experienced multi-disciplinary team, including undertaking routine daily section 136/135 assessments in the HBPOS unit and senior medical reviews at MHCAS. Additionally, you will liaise with emergency department liaison teams/medical staff, provide brief clinical reports, and participate in daily team supervision/debriefing sessions.

Requirements

We are looking for a qualified psychiatrist with excellent clinical skills, strong leadership abilities, and a passion for teaching and mentoring. Key requirements include:

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and a license to practice.
  • Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent higher qualification in psychiatry.
  • Specialist accreditation in General Adult Psychiatry and/or Old Age Psychiatry.
  • Section 12(2) and Approved Clinician status (or eligibility).
  • Strong knowledge of mental health legislation, policies, and procedures.
