About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior/Principal Substation Engineer to join our industry-leading team in the Transmissions and Distributions sector. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and implementing transmission protection systems for voltages up to kV.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and review transmission protection systems for voltages up to kV.
  • Review in-house designs and those produced by external contractors.
  • Develop and implement safe design and operation of electrical networks.
  • Advise on design and design change issues.
  • Specialize in electrical engineering with experience and knowledge of other engineering fields.
  • Ensure competent personnel and sub-contractors undertake design projects.
  • Implement alternative solutions compared to transmission specifications, policies, and best practices.
  • Deliver assigned tasks and deliverables of projects to time, quality, and budget.
  • Conduct site visits and surveys as required.
  • Proactively identify, assess, and manage risks to avoid adverse impacts on projects.
  • Identify, assess, and adopt the best technical solution.
  • Manage client interfaces, including infrastructure planners, project resources, and system operators.
  • Manage risk and CDM.

Requirements

  • Proven technical capability in design and application of power system protection.
  • Experience in protection application at transmission voltage levels up to kV.
  • Preparation of protection and control design deliverables, feasibility studies, reports, programs, and cost estimating.
  • Calculation of relay settings and preparation of logic files.
  • Ability to work with internal and external parties, including equipment suppliers and manufacturers.
  • Experience in preparing detailed electrical schematic diagrams for substation protection and control systems.
  • Experience in busbar, feeder, transformer, reactor, circuit breaker fail, DAR protections, and SCADA interface.
  • Knowledge of IEC communication protocols.
  • Experience in preparing single-line diagrams, substation layouts, key line drawings, and cable protection.
  • Good working experience of computer-based packages, such as ASPEN OneLiner and ETAP.
  • National Grid TP Protection and Settings authorization.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical or commercial issues to peers or senior managers.
  • Ability to work in and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to develop working relationships quickly and effectively.
  • Ability to write clear and concise documentation.
