About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team for a 12-month industrial placement. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for assessing the current status of our deformation rigs, identifying capability gaps, and developing a plan for targeted hardware acquisitions to maximize scientific output.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess the current portfolio of deformation rigs available at ENGIN-X and identify capability gaps
  • Perform a market survey of available deformation rigs on the market
  • Develop a list of specifications and requirements for the new deformation rig, including upgradability with ancillary characterization techniques
  • Work with stakeholders to develop a plan for targeted hardware acquisitions
  • Perform a conceptual design of the new deformation rig in an iterative process with stakeholders
Requirements
  • Currently enrolled on an undergraduate degree course and returning to university/studies to complete your undergraduate degree following the placement
  • Required or have requested to take an industrial placement year
  • Have the right to live and work in the UK for the duration of the placement
  • Able to commence employment in summer 2025
  • Good understanding of properties of metals and of mechanical engineering
  • Familiarity with mechanical loading tests of materials
