The RoleWe are seeking an experienced Clinical Research Fellow to join our team and drive innovative research in the field of eye growth, vision, and myopia. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals with a passion for ocular research to develop their clinical skills and experience. The successful candidate will work closely with our team of scientists and engineers to design and execute clinical trials, analyze data, and publish results in peer-reviewed journals.
Key Responsibilities- Design and execute clinical trials to investigate the effects of myopia on eye growth and vision
- Analyze data from clinical trials and publish results in peer-reviewed journals
- Work closely with our team of scientists and engineers to develop new diagnostic medical devices
- Participate in the identification and recruitment of eligible study participants and maintain patient safety throughout the tests
- Public and patient involvement and engagement: plan and deliver activities to encourage participant retention and myopia awareness
- Quantifying a range of images resulting from the tests
- Compilation, storage, analysis, and interpretation of all research data
- Ensure that all studies and tests are conducted in accordance with the required regulatory and ethical standards
- Undergraduate degree in optometry or a similar degree incorporating an optometry component
- Solid background in research
- Understanding of retinal circuitry and visual processing
- Demonstrable previous clinical experience (for example, previous experience in an Optician/Optometrist environment)
- Significant previous clinical experience working with a range of patients - in particular children - is essential
- Solid background in data collection and analysis (preferably relating to the eye)
- Experience in literature searches and manuscript preparation
- Masters or PhD in an optometry-related discipline
- Good publication record, including as first author
- Previous experience presenting at conferences
- Prior experience in research ethics applications Integrated Research Application System: IRAS)
- Skills in statistical analysis
- Skills in coding
- Passionate about making a real difference in people's vision and health
- Good communicator, both in lay and scientific terms, with strong writing skills
- Enthusiastic and persistent, with a keen analytical thinker and problem solver
- Self-motivated, collaborative, and adaptable to the varying needs and behavior of challenging patients
