Avencia Consulting, a global leader in specialty and commercial insurance, is seeking a seasoned Head of Data Governance to join their team in London. As a key member of the international business, you will play a pivotal role in helping the organization drive value from data within a dynamic and collaborative environment.

The Opportunity

Driving value from data is critical to delivering the firm's strategic ambitions. We are investing in our data capabilities to deliver agile analytics to support front-end underwriting and claims teams, as well as controlled and conformed data flows to meet financial, actuarial, and regulatory reporting requirements. In this context, the data governance and quality team works collaboratively with functions across the business to improve the integrity and accuracy of our data assets, maximizing and maintaining the benefits we see from the investments we're making.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Champion data governance and quality across international operations, supporting the development of a data-driven culture.
  2. Design and implement a data governance and quality strategy that aligns with business goals.
  3. Develop and maintain data governance and quality policies, procedures, and controls to promote best practice and ensure compliance with relevant regulation.
  4. Set out a clear roadmap for improving the data quality and governance programs and practices, including the introduction, development, or maintenance of appropriate tools.
  5. Oversee the delivery of the roadmap, navigating challenges as they arise and ensuring the program continues to support the ultimate business objectives.
  6. Promote data governance and quality best practices across the international operations, working with stakeholders to ensure the approach is fit for purpose for their context and use cases.
  7. Represent data governance and quality issues at the International Operational Leadership Group.
  8. Liaise with data governance and quality teams within other parts of the business to align on group-level requirements as appropriate.
Requirements
  • Track record of delivering value to organizations through data governance and quality frameworks.
  • Excellent understanding of insurance data, particularly with regards to commercial and specialty insurance in the London and international markets.
  • Proficiency in implementing data governance and quality tools, as well as data management software and applications. Previous experience with Ataccama is preferable.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant regulatory frameworks such as Solvency II, SOX, and GDPR.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to shape high-performing teams.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills at all levels, including internal and external.
  • A proven track record of delivering change within the data space.
  • The ability to stay ahead of external trends and promote continuous improvement.
  • Robust problem-solving skills, including the ability to structure issues, manage up and down.
