The Opportunity:

We are seeking a highly skilled HPC Systems Specialist to join our team at EPCC, the UK's leading centre for high performance computing and data science service provision. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for supporting and developing our diverse set of systems and architectures at our state-of-the-art 38MW supercomputing data centre.

Our team is at the forefront of technology innovation, and this is a wonderful opportunity to join a friendly and dynamic organisation. You will be based between our two office locations: The Bayes Centre in Edinburgh and the Advanced Computing Facility in Midlothian.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and develop our diverse set of systems and architectures at our state-of-the-art 38MW supercomputing data centre.
  • Work with our team to provide excellent service to users and independently follow tasks through to successful completion.
  • Manage small IT projects, set deadlines and expectations, communicate to internal and external stakeholders, and provide satisfaction through to completion.
  • Apply specialist system administration and infrastructure management skills to solve technically complex problems and generate innovative solutions to operational and development challenges.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional DevOps teams to deliver high-quality services to our users.

Requirements:

  • A relevant degree plus some experience (or extensive experience without a degree) as a Senior Linux system administrator.
  • Excellent Linux system administration skills and understanding of underlying infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of technologies such as Ansible, Kubernetes, OpenStack, Ceph, Block, BeeGFS, and Lustre.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional DevOps teams.
