About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Payroll Team Leader to join our team at MHR. As a Payroll Team Leader, you will be responsible for providing a professional and responsive payroll service to our customers, both internally and externally.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and lead the payroll team, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing.
  • Delegate tasks effectively to ensure all payroll processes are completed accurately and on time.
  • Ensure all BACS transmissions are completed in accordance with the payroll schedule and procedure.
  • Support the Payroll Manager with activities and resource planning.
  • Responsible for ensuring the provision of data to external providers, including third parties, issuing authorities, and HMRC.
  • Assist with balancing and reconciliation of payrolls and act as a final sign-off before issuing to the customer.
  • Monitor the daily schedule to ensure all tasks are completed and updated accordingly.
  • Support analysts with complex queries and manual calculations.
  • Act as an escalation point for customers.
  • Manage behavioral and performance issues and escalate if necessary.
  • Evaluate current payroll processes and identify areas for improvement and feed into the overall automation and efficiency program.
  • Support with the implementation of new procedures, processes, and systems to increase efficiency and accuracy, ensuring the team is utilizing and adopting change.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects and initiatives as needed.
  • Communicate and work effectively across the department and MHR.
  • Monitor team resourcing to ensure Service Levels are met.
  • Respond to customers in a timely and effective manner.
  • Monitor the quality of service and immediately implement actions to resolve any service issues.
  • Keep up to date with software functionality.
  • A respect for confidentiality.
Management Responsibilities
  • Regularly review team and individual performance.
  • Identification of training needs and creation of personal development plans.
  • Actively participate in the recruitment, selection, and retention process.
  • Conduct and document check-ins and performance reviews.
