About Network Rail
Network Rail operates and maintains the railway infrastructure 24/7, ensuring a safe and efficient transportation system for millions of passengers and freight users every year.
The Central route is a critical part of the national rail network, with hundreds of thousands of passengers and thousands of tonnes of freight carried daily. The planned HS2 railway will include stops in Birmingham and Solihull, providing additional capacity and faster journeys for passengers. East West Rail will re-establish a rail link between Cambridge and Oxford, improving connectivity within the region.
Brief Job Description
This role requires a Senior Project Engineer to manage engineering standards, ensure compliance with legislation and company policies, and lead a team of Building Project Engineers in delivering engineering assurance for the national programme.
About the Role
- Implement digital railway systems and procedures to deliver cost-effective, high-quality, and safe design, construction, commissioning, and technical activities on relevant projects.
- Monitor the competence of Project Engineers working on Digital Railway Programme outputs and provide functional guidance, direction, and briefing.
- Apply engineering controls and procedures to all projects, checking if design and construction contracts include reference to appropriate Railway Group and Company standards applicable to their discipline.
- Assess risks and ensure environmental aspects are managed according to Environmental Policy.
- Monitor project compliance with Railway Group and Company standards and Digital Railway Programme project control procedures.
- Advise project and programme management on construction activities, testing, commissioning, and site supervision.
- Ensure contractors' design, construction, and specialist personnel are competent.
Requirements
- Significant experience in engineering disciplines, ideally with involvement in construction and design projects across multiple areas.
- Technical qualifications to at least HND level or equivalent.
- Membership of a relevant professional institution.
- Experience of major contracting.
- Knowledge of structuring safety cases in support of projects.
- Understanding of safety management and quality assurance arrangements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Six Sigma Yellow Belt.
- Chartered status or equivalent in the particular discipline.
