About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Advanced Pharmacist to join our Pharmacy Medicines Effectiveness (PME) team at Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will provide maternity cover for our 8a Advanced Pharmacist (Medicines Effectiveness) and will be responsible for leading, managing, and delivering the objectives and outputs of our highly specialist PME team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deputise for the Lead Pharmacist (Clinical Commissioning & Medicines Value) and lead the PME team in their absence.
  • Provide information and support to the Lead Pharmacy Technician (Medicines Effectiveness) in managing the introduction of new formulary medicines to the Trust.
  • Publicise key formulary changes to healthcare professionals across the Trust.
  • Identify themes from audits of non-formulary and unlicensed prescribing and design and implement mitigations and learning interventions to improve formulary adherence and unlicensed prescribing.
  • Provide internal and external education and training to pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals on formulary, commissioning, and interface issues.
  • Practice as an advanced Pharmacy practitioner with special interest in at least one clinical specialty.
  • Provide a specialist clinical pharmacy service to patients in specified wards and clinical areas.
  • Line manage a junior clinical pharmacist and be involved in recruitment, induction, appraisal, attendance management, performance review, and management.
Person Specification

We are looking for a highly experienced and qualified pharmacist with a strong background in clinical pharmacy and medicines commissioning. The ideal candidate will have:

  • M Pharm Degree (or equivalent)
  • Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy (or equivalent)
  • Keeps professionally up to date including CPD

Desirable qualifications and experience include:

  • Member of Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain
  • Management training/experience
  • Non-medical prescriber
