About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Development Underwriter to join our team at Travelers. This is a challenging and rewarding role that will give you the opportunity to work with a dynamic team and contribute to the growth and success of the company.



Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:



  • Underwriting and assessing risk for products and accounts from assigned brokers
  • Making appropriate decisions within own underwriting authority and providing recommendations to regional or product underwriting leadership
  • Consistently managing book of business to maintain quality of business required by regional or product underwriting strategy
  • Establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with colleagues in Head Office, Risk Control, Claims, Actuarial, and other parts of the organization
  • Developing and executing sales plans for assigned brokers in conjunction with regional sales leadership
  • Acting as a responsible business partner with assigned brokers and clients, managing interests of TICL
  • Participating in regularly scheduled regional and product underwriting and/or sales meetings with team
  • Demonstrating superior customer service standards, consistency, quick response, and knowledge of products
  • Working strategically and tactically with brokers to ensure they have an appropriate level of understanding
  • Ensuring all compliance and regulatory requirements for the role are understood and met through necessary training and certifications
  • Performing other duties as assigned


Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:



  • University degree and/or Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) Advanced Certification or Diploma
  • General knowledge of industry business operations and work methods, critical business issues, and financial drivers that affect the Line of Business
  • General knowledge of the local insurance marketplace and ability to use that knowledge to the Company's advantage
  • Previous experience of underwriting in management liability/professional indemnity/financial institutions
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to make sound decisions and recommendations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Strong business acumen and ability to understand financial drivers and impact of underwriting decisions on business profitability
