About the Position

We are seeking a highly skilled General Practice Clinical Pharmacist to join our team at NHS Scotland.

This is a 14-month fixed-term opportunity, based in GP practices across Ayrshire, with occasional requirements to work in other areas within NHS Ayrshire & Arran.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will support the delivery of safe, clinically effective, and cost-effective prescribing by providing clinical audit, patient-facing medication reviews, and expert advice on prescribing and medicines use.

You will also be responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating processes to ensure successful implementation of NHS Ayrshire & Arran prescribing strategies and policies.

Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical audit and patient-facing medication reviews in GP practices to promote high-quality prescribing and improve cost-effectiveness.
  • Offer expert advice on prescribing and medicines use to GPs, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Advise patients and carers on medicines-related issues or treatment of minor ailments, referring to other healthcare professionals when necessary.
  • Develop and implement processes to ensure successful implementation of NHS Ayrshire & Arran prescribing strategies and policies.
Requirements
  • Masters of Pharmacy Degree or equivalent.
  • Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council of Great Britain (including evidence of continuing professional development).
  • Vocational Training (Level 2) or training experience to an equivalent level.
  • Relevant pharmacy experience.
  • Experience in primary care pharmacy.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a pharmacy and multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Demonstrate a highly specialised level of clinical pharmacy knowledge, skills, clinical reasoning, and judgement.
  • Requires advanced arithmetic skills and computer literacy with knowledge of information technology.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of relevant standards and guidelines.
What We Offer

In this role, you can expect a competitive salary range of £40,000-£60,000 per annum, depending on your experience and qualifications.
