Senior Buyer - Engineering Sector

We are seeking an experienced Senior Buyer to join our Engineering Sector team. The successful candidate will have a strong background in technical procurement and excellent knowledge of mechanical and electrical processes.

The ideal candidate will have experience in a project-based manufacturing environment and be able to effectively engage with suppliers to assess technical requirements.

  • Execute technical procurement activities, ensuring a balance between quality, delivery, and cost considerations.
  • Lead supplier selection and development initiatives, evaluating potential suppliers based on quality standards, delivery capabilities, and cost competitiveness.
  • Apply a comprehensive understanding of mechanical and electrical processes to effectively engage with suppliers and assess technical requirements.
  • Create new supplier accounts on the company ERP system.
  • Maintain the supplier database to ensure that all vendors are approved for use in line with the company's Supplier Approval Procedure.
  • Compile and analyze price & delivery requests to suppliers.
  • Monitor actual costs against costing documents to ensure that job budgets are complied with, and communicate any discrepancies to the Project Managers.
  • Communicate with all interested parties (Project Managers, Production Planning / Management) to update on supply status and ensure that all materials are available in line with the agreed manufacturing program.
  • Identify new vendors, supply methods, and system improvements to assist the company's purchasing and stock control processes.
  • Be involved in any projects for cost reduction, product development, or process improvement, as required.
  • Contribute towards and assist in the implementation of new Supply Chain processes.
  • Contribute towards the creation and ongoing maintenance of Procurement guides and procedures.
  • Deputize as part of the management structure of the company if the Procurement Manager is unavailable.

Requirements:

  • Experience in a manufacturing-based purchasing role.
  • A broad understanding of mechanical and electrical processes.
  • Competence when interpreting engineering CAD drawings.
  • Flexible approach, with the ability to adapt to changing requirements.
  • Excellent computer skills (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint).
