Main Purpose of the Role

You will be a seasoned Highways Design Engineer and integral member of the highways team, working on a variety of highways schemes from feasibility through to implementation. Providing expertise and direction to the project team on highway design and construction.

Main Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Lead the design process for Highways and Infrastructure projects.
  2. Utilize local staff, contractor staff in other offices, and subconsultants to achieve project goals.
  3. Manage design and disciplines for projects, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and codes of practice.
  4. Collate project information and liaise with the Client and client team as required, providing technical input into major/minor highway and infrastructure schemes.
  5. Coordinate and liaise with other offices to ensure seamless project delivery.
  6. Maintain a good understanding of all relevant standards, codes of practice, health and safety legislation, and current relevant design methods.
  7. Comply with all Company Procedures and Work Instructions.
  8. Execute site-based or head office functions, liaising with clients and other contractor's staff to collect project-specific information as required by the Project Manager.
  9. Check/approve own and other staff work, including third-party design proposals, as identified in the Project Quality Plan on assigned projects.
  10. Carry out other duties identified in the Project Management Plan or as required by the Project Manager on assigned projects.

Essential Preferred Qualifications

  1. Degree in a relevant Engineering discipline.
  2. MSc or MEng Experience.
  3. A minimum of 5 years of highways design experience.
  4. Understanding of health and safety issues in relation to the design and construction of civil engineering works.
  5. Experience in resolving design issues, including resolving comments from the Local Authority - Previous experience of an engineering organization.
  6. Knowledge and experience of the construction process.

  1. Industry-standard computer-aided tools, i.e., AutoCAD, AutoTRACK.
  2. Communication skills; Verbal & Written.
  3. Report Writing.
  4. Civil 3D.
  5. Micro drainage.
  6. Good presentation and communication skills.
