Main Purpose of the Role

As a highly experienced Highway Design Engineer, you will be an integral member of our highways team, working on a wide range of highway schemes from feasibility to implementation. You will provide expertise and direction to the project team on highway design and construction, ensuring that projects are delivered to the highest standards.

Main Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Lead the design of highways and infrastructure projects, utilizing local staff, contractor staff, and sub-consultants as required.
  2. Manage design and disciplines for projects, ensuring that all aspects are coordinated and delivered to time and budget.
  3. Collate project information and liaise with clients and client teams as necessary, providing technical input into major and minor highway and infrastructure schemes.
  4. Coordinate and liaise with other offices, maintaining a good understanding of all relevant standards, codes of practice, health and safety legislation, and current design methods.
  5. Ensure compliance with company procedures and work instructions, executing site-based or head office functions as required.
  6. Check and approve own and other staff work, including third-party design proposals, as identified in the project quality plan.
  7. Carry out other duties as identified in the project management plan or as required by the project manager.

Essential Preferred Qualifications

  1. Degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  2. MSc or MEng experience.
  3. A minimum of 5 years of highways design experience.
  4. Understanding of health and safety issues in relation to the design and construction of civil engineering works.
  5. Experience in resolving design issues, including resolving comments from the local authority, and previous experience of an engineering organization.
  6. Knowledge and experience of the construction process.

Key Skills

  1. Industry-standard computer-aided tools, including AutoCAD, AutoTRACK, and Civil 3D.
  2. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  3. Report writing and presentation skills.
  4. Micro drainage and good presentation skills.
