This is a multifaceted position that requires a unique blend of technical expertise and interpersonal skills. As a Technical Specialist in Histopathology and Imaging, you will be responsible for providing support to research teams in the Parasites and Microbes Programme at the Wellcome Sanger Institute.
Key Responsibilities- Provide expertise in histopathology and imaging techniques, including cryosectioning, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), and electron microscopy.
- Work closely with research teams to understand their requirements for specific imaging techniques and provide guidance on experimental design and optimization.
- Manage and maintain the imaging suites, including delegated laboratory management and ensuring compliance with Sanger policies.
- Develop and implement best practices for imaging and histopathology, including training and mentoring staff.
- Collaborate with the Imaging Lead to develop and implement new imaging techniques and technologies.
- Educated to degree level in biological sciences or equivalent work experience.
- In-depth knowledge and experience of practical laboratory work, including histology and imaging techniques.
- Cryosectioning experience and knowledge of laboratory health and safety regulations.
- Experience working with human tissue samples and the Human Tissue Act.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with research teams and stakeholders.
