About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and committed individual to join our team as a Patient Care Assistant in Northamptonshire. As a key member of our Non-Emergency Patient Transport Service, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and transportation services to our patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transport patients, healthcare professionals, and escorts to and from specified locations, ensuring the safety and well-being of patients at all times.
  • Ensure patients are collected and returned home without undue delay, adhering to contractual quality requirements.
  • Complete dynamic risk assessments for moving patients safely and advise Control of any perceived problems.
  • Administer oxygen as documented on the original booking, as required to the patient.
  • Maintain the highest standards of conduct, customer care, and courtesy in dealing with patients, while always maintaining their dignity and privacy.
  • Provide reassurance to patients, making their journey as comfortable and safe as possible, and be observant and knowledgeable of patients' health changes.
  • Comply with Trust procedures and relevant legislation to ensure effective service delivery and patient safety.
  • Observe situations related to patient well-being and safeguarding, notifying any potential problems to Control and the appropriate officer or responsible medical career.
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and legible completion of operational documentation.
  • Maintain close liaison with Control, advising of any changes to normal routine and procedure, including re-planning journeys due to road conditions or patients' mobility status.
  • Ensure vehicle and equipment are wiped down between patients and adhere to all Trust Infection Prevention Control Procedures.
  • Maintain vehicles, equipment, and premises to defined standards at all times, including daily vehicle checks and reporting any defects.
  • Report any hazardous or dangerous equipment, premises, or practices to the appropriate line manager.
  • Report all near miss/incidents immediately through the Trust Incident Reporting Procedure.
  • Undertake training as required to facilitate the provision of a high-quality service and maintain knowledge of equipment use and procedures.
  • Adept a flexible approach in response to operational needs regarding duties, base/location, and hours of work.

Person Specification

  • Essential:
    • 2 GCSEs at grade D or equivalents.
  • Desirable:
    • Evidence of a caring approach, such as paid or unpaid experience in a direct care-related capacity.
  • Knowledge:
    • Ability to work within a team and/or unsupervised.
  • Qualifications:
    • Full clean manual driving license (including category A - old style license - or categories B - new style license) - minor offenses may be considered, with no more than 3 penalty points in total.
