Job Description

A supportive and experienced Pastoral Support Staff Member is required for a Pupil Referral Unit in the Northumberland area, working with pupils aged 6-14.

This long-term role involves providing support to pupils with SEMH, ADHD, Autism, and ADD. The ideal candidate will hold a Teaching Assistant, Counselling, or Youth Work qualification and have experience working with children who struggle to adapt to mainstream schools.

The school prioritizes getting the best out of every pupil, with small class sizes encouraging close relationships and a personal learning approach. Outdoor learning is also encouraged.

Responsibilities:

  1. Supporting pupils with SEMH and other special needs
  2. Assisting in de-escalating situations and maintaining a safe environment
  3. Engaging with pupils in a proactive and positive way
  4. Maintaining accurate records and reporting to relevant staff members

Requirements:

  • Taught Assistant, Counselling, or Youth Work qualification
  • Experience working with children with SEMH and/or disadvantaged backgrounds
  • Ability to de-escalate situations and maintain a safe environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Salary: £25,000 - £30,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
