Quantity Surveyor Job Description

At Construction Resources, we are seeking a highly skilled Quantity Surveyor to join our team. As a Quantity Surveyor, you will play a crucial role in delivering cost control and financial reporting duties across all aspects of construction work.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver cost control and financial reporting duties, ensuring accurate and timely reporting of construction costs.
  • Work closely with other departments, including Land, Development, and Construction, to advise on cost implications and ensure alignment with company objectives.
  • Attend design meetings, development meetings, and contract pre-start meetings to provide expert advice on cost-related matters.
  • Prepare and review construction cost analysis, including quotations, tender information, and site staffing levels.
  • Collaborate with the Construction Director to assess site staffing levels and build programmes, ensuring preliminary costs are accurately estimated.
  • Arrange and adjudicate budget settlement meetings, working closely with the Commercial team to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Prepare stage payment schedules, issue variation orders, and provide cost advice on major variations.
  • Check and arrange subcontractor payments, ensuring all works are carried out within budget and analyzing costs to inform future estimates.
  • Take responsibility for the preparation of documents for external valuation, including CSA, stage payment schedules, and tick-offs.
  • Liaise with the Customer Service department on post-completion defects, providing cost advice where necessary.
  • Attend site meetings, project team meetings, subcontractor meetings, and surveying meetings as required.
Requirements:
  • Experience in quantity surveying and knowledge of construction techniques and mixed-tenure schemes.
  • High level of mathematical ability and problem-solving skills, with a methodical and logical approach to work.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Excel and ability to learn new computer systems, such as Xpedeon and Viewpoint/4Projects.
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a wider team, influencing others to share best practices and achieve company objectives.
  • Good understanding of strategic objectives, targeting financial return, and manipulating complex financial models.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages, with proficient use of Microsoft Excel.
