Are you a Mechanical Engineer with expertise in Mechanical Handling, Remote Operations, or robotics? Do you excel in tackling challenging engineering problems? If you have a passion for intricate design projects and aspire to take on leadership roles, this position may be ideal for you.

In this role, you will address critical mechanical handling challenges within the energy sector, collaborating with a diverse range of clients. Your responsibilities may include designing systems for the safe packaging of radioactive materials, managing fuel in cutting-edge nuclear reactors, enhancing maintenance capabilities for fusion reactors, supporting UK Submarine and Small Modular Reactor (SMR) initiatives, or contributing to various renewable energy projects aimed at achieving carbon neutrality. You will likely manage multiple projects concurrently, so adaptability is essential. The common thread in this position is the complexity of the tasks and the opportunity to devise innovative solutions for a variety of clients.

Regardless of the specific projects you engage with, you will be involved in implementing collaborative industrial and mobile robotics solutions that prioritize safety and efficiency, making a significant contribution to the future of energy supply.

Key Responsibilities:

You will work within small to medium-sized teams, leveraging collective expertise to foster innovative thinking. A collaborative and supportive office or site environment will be your primary workspace for at least half of your working week. Your commercial awareness will be crucial in delivering tasks across multiple workstreams, ensuring timely, high-quality, and cost-effective outcomes. While your mechanical handling expertise will be invaluable, your transferable mechanical engineering skills may also be applied to other projects within the nuclear sector.

Essential Qualifications:
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Proven experience in designing and validating mechanical handling or robotic systems.
  • Strong ability to produce accurate, detailed, and concise technical documentation.
  • Comfortable engaging with clients, understanding their challenges and objectives.
  • Experience in regulated engineering environments, adhering to Quality Assurance protocols.
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in any of the following areas is advantageous:
  • Nuclear industry background.
  • Design and implementation of mechanical handling equipment such as cranes, hoists, and conveyors.
  • Automation or robotics technology development.
  • Experience with safety-critical and heavily regulated projects.
  • Familiarity with design codes like BS EN13001 or ASME B30.
  • Knowledge of LOLER, Machinery Directive, and CE/UKCA marking standards.
  • Proficiency in CAD software, particularly Autodesk Inventor.
  • Experience with hand calculations using MATHCAD.
  • Chartered status with a relevant professional institution (or nearing application).

You will be part of innovative projects that span various sectors, contributing to the development of safe and resilient systems across nuclear power, renewable energy, and energy efficiency initiatives.
