Leeds, Leeds, United Kingdom Protocol Education Full time
About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behaviour Support Assistant to join our SEMH school team. As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with social, emotional, and mental health needs to thrive in a learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with SEMH needs, promoting their social, emotional, and academic development.
  • Implement behaviour management strategies, drawing on your experience in high-pressure environments, to create a safe and structured environment for students to learn and grow.
  • Act as a positive role model, promoting self-discipline and resilience, and supporting students in developing their own coping strategies.
  • Work closely with teachers, parents, and external agencies to ensure that each child receives the best possible support and guidance.
  • Assist in creating a safe and supportive environment, prioritizing the physical and emotional well-being of students.
Why Your Background is Ideal

Ex-military and police personnel often excel in roles within SEMH settings due to their strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Your experience handling challenging situations, managing conflict, and fostering teamwork can translate perfectly into helping students who may struggle with authority, routine, or emotional regulation.

What We're Looking For
  • A passion for working with young people and making a positive impact on their lives.
  • A background in the Armed Forces, Police, or a similar structured, discipline-based environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • A willingness to learn about and engage with SEMH-specific approaches and strategies.
  • Experience working with vulnerable individuals (desirable, but not essential).
  • A flexible and proactive approach to work, with a strong sense of responsibility.
Benefits
  • A rewarding career helping students achieve their potential.
  • Comprehensive training in SEMH and education support.
  • A supportive team environment with opportunities for growth and professional development.
  • The chance to use your unique skill set to make a lasting impact.
Highlights of Working with Protocol Education
  • Full-time and part-time positions available.
  • Develop your knowledge of the national curriculum.
  • Ideal post for graduates looking to move into a career in teaching.
