Join Northern Powergrid's Finance Team

We are seeking an experienced Finance Assistant to join our team at Northern Powergrid, a leading energy company in the North East, Yorkshire, and northern Lincolnshire. As a Finance Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting our finance department in providing excellent customer service, processing daily cash receipting, and taking credit/debit card payments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process customer payments received, including cheques, BACS, CHAPS, and Purchase Orders
  • Download income bank statements from Lloyds Bank daily and allocate funds accordingly
  • Input relevant receipting details into CFS
  • Complete banking schedules with cheque details for collection by G4S and complete reconciliations
  • Contact customers with queries regarding payments received without remittance advices
  • Complete journal transfers for payments made into the incorrect bank accounts
  • Upload and reconcile all debit/credit card payments received on a daily basis
  • Process customer refunds on a timely basis
  • Take customer credit/debit card payments over the telephone
  • Monitor all email correspondence and deal with any incoming email queries and telephone calls from internal and external customers

Key Competencies:

  • Work collaboratively and lead a team to create a strong team work ethic
  • Good attention to detail
  • Good level of IT skills, including Financial Systems and Microsoft Office
  • Good customer service skills, with both telephone and email
  • Planning and organisation skills, with the ability to work with high volumes of work to meet deadlines

Qualifications and Attributes:

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent), including English and Math at grade C or 4 or above
  • NVQ Financial/Business qualifications with an understanding of financial receipting and reconciliation
  • Knowledge of Oracle-based finance systems
  • At least 2 years' experience working in a financial/cashiering role
