Job Summary

Norfolk State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Special Education position. The successful candidate will teach and develop courses in the Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S.Ed.) and Master of Arts (M.A.) degree programs in Special Education. The candidate will supervise student internships and other field experiences, advise and mentor students, and engage in program development, curriculum reviews, and assessment of student learning.

Responsibilities

The Assistant Professor of Special Education will teach courses in special education, supervise student internships, and engage in program development and assessment. The candidate will also advise and mentor students, and participate in departmental and university committees.

Requirements

The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate (Ph.D. /Ed. D.) in Special Education or a related field from an accredited university. The candidate will have evidence of or demonstrated potential for inclusive teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level, and an established or developing research agenda that informs teaching and practice in special education.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with a record of teaching experience at the college or university level, and considerable practice with face-to-face and online course delivery modalities. Candidates eligible for a Commonwealth of Virginia Professional License with an endorsement in Special Education and previous experience as a P-12 special education teacher are highly preferred.
