OSCE Training Programme Overview

The Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability offers an OSCE training programme designed for internationally trained nurses seeking to advance their careers in the UK. This structured intensive programme provides a comprehensive teaching and assessment experience, preparing candidates for the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registration process.

Programme Objectives
  • To equip internationally trained nurses with the necessary skills and competencies to succeed in the UK healthcare system
  • To provide a supportive learning environment for candidates to practice and be assessed on various skills and competencies
  • To facilitate the transition of internationally trained nurses into the UK workforce
Programme Structure

The OSCE programme is divided into four weeks, with a focus on teaching, demonstration, and practice in weeks one and two, mock assessments in week three, and OSCE exams in week four.

Key Programme Components
  • Introduction to the OSCE Programme, journey, and assessment process
  • The APIE workstations, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, and care plan documentation
  • Variety of observation charts, including the NEWS 2 Chart, neurological observation chart, Braden Scale, PHQ-9 Chart, and MUST score chart
  • Clinical Skills workstations, including administration of inhaled medications, aseptic non-touch technique, blood glucose monitoring, and more
  • Evidence-based workstations, focusing on diabetes, female myocardial infarction, pressure ulcer prevention, and smoking cessation
  • Professional values workstations, covering confidentiality, drug error, possible abuse, and professional confrontation
