This role offers a unique opportunity to work on high temperature superconductor magnet technology and contribute to the development of fusion energy.

Salary: The estimated salary for this role is £60,000 - £80,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing high temperature superconductor (HTS) magnet technology to support fusion and non-fusion projects.

You will work with external collaborators as required to develop HTS magnet designs and mechanical models of HTS magnets.

Your primary responsibility will be taking ownership of the mechanical development of the magnet designs, ensuring the work stays focused on project objectives.

Additionally, you will take ownership of the mechanical materials database and ensure appropriate material properties are used in complex magnet mechanical models.

Working with the wider team, you will design prototype testing facilities to ensure measurements on prototype coils can be used to accurately validate complex mechanical models.

As part of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring magnet development projects stay focussed to deliver against defined SMART objectives of the project.

You will liaise with project and program managers as requested.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience working with high-technology equipment and complex systems, preferably with magnetic fields, superconducting magnets, and cryogenic systems.
  • Degree or equivalent experience in a relevant Engineering or Physics-based discipline.
  • Demonstrated track record of innovation, creativity, and project delivery in a complex engineering/technology development environment.
