About the Role

Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Research Director to join our team. As a key member of our leadership team, you will play a critical role in shaping our research strategy and driving our mission to tackle the climate emergency and end the suffering caused by cold homes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and lead our research unit, managing a team of researchers and data analysts to deliver high-quality research projects and evaluations.
  • Ensure the quality of our research outputs, providing expertise in research methods and holding overall responsibility for the quality of our research projects and evaluations.
  • Manage research projects and evaluations through the full project cycle, from design to data collection and analysis.
  • Hold responsibility for the financial management of research and evaluation projects, ensuring effective financial control and overseeing project budgets.
  • Lead on research design across the organisation, championing the use of mixed-method approaches and developing research proposals that combine academic rigour with real-world impact.
Requirements
  • Post-doctoral degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Research leadership experience in a relevant field, with a significant track record of developing successful proposals, working across disciplines, and delivering mixed-methods projects.
  • Successful project management experience, including responsibility for budgets and deadlines.
  • Line management and supporting researcher development.
  • Excellent self-motivation and initiative, with the ability to manage own workload and support others to prioritise strategically.
  • Demonstrable commitment to CSE's primary objectives to tackle the climate emergency and end the suffering caused by cold homes.
