About the Role

The Health Research Authority (HRA) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead our Approvals Service directorate. As the Head of Approvals Support and Improvement, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth delivery of regulatory services and driving quality and continuous improvement across the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Recruit and support Research Ethics Committee (REC) and Confidentiality Advisory Group (CAG) members in England
  • Co-produce learning opportunities and materials with the team
  • Provide guidance to applicants and researchers
  • Develop and implement business and improvement activities in the directorate
  • Lead involvement in operational policy for research ethics committees
  • Coordinate input to the UK-wide framework for research ethics
Person Specification

We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in regulatory services, quality assurance, and project management. The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Master's qualification in a relevant field, plus a management qualification
  • Experience of risk management and quality assurance
  • Budget management experience across several budget lines
  • Experience of planning and delivering complex projects
  • Experience in developing services with volunteers
  • Excellent stakeholder management and relationship building skills
  • Knowledge of national systems, structures, and processes for supporting health research
