About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at James Fisher and Sons plc. As a key member of our Military Engineering team, you will be responsible for providing engineering design solutions and through-life engineering support to our military product range.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide engineering design input to new products, ensuring they meet client requirements and industry standards.
  • Provide engineering support to the existing product range, including assessing technical queries and providing solutions.
  • Liaise with internal departments, such as sales, procurement, and production, to ensure the best technical solution is provided.
  • Sourcing suitable components and materials, and creating part numbers and bill of materials.
  • Creation of engineering documentation, including specifications, proposals, assembly instructions, test procedures, certification, and reports.
  • Checking detailed manufacturing drawings and documentation, ensuring compliance with engineering and company standards.
  • Ensuring engineering solutions are provided on time and on budget, and adhering to company processes.
  • Site visits to other JFD offices and client assets, as required.
  • Accountability and responsibility as technical approver of drawings and documentation generated in support of the senior mechanical engineer role.
  • Compliance to internal and external standards and regulations.
  • Responsible for promoting engagement and developing a resilient, diverse, and high-performing team.

Requirements:

  • Proven mechanical design skills, with experience in generating design calculations.
  • Excellent knowledge of manufacturing techniques, gas and fluid systems, and design standards.
  • Knowledge of industry guidelines, such as IMCA, and experience with PLM systems for generating and storing engineering packages.
  • Substantial experience in a mechanical engineer or product engineer role, with a mechanical engineering degree or equivalent industry experience.
