Position Overview: Geotechnical Specialist

Compensation: starting at £30,000 per annum, dependent on experience

Role Summary:

Pertemps TM is seeking a proficient Geotechnical Specialist to enhance our innovative team. The ideal candidate will be instrumental in geotechnical initiatives, ensuring excellence and effectiveness in all facets of site assessments and engineering design.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Plan, oversee, and execute site assessments, including budget forecasting and subcontractor engagement.
  • Conduct geotechnical engineering with an emphasis on slope stability, settlement analysis, retaining structures, and reinforced earth techniques. Supervise earthworks specifications and designs.
  • Draft interpretative reports for geotechnical and associated environmental projects.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to junior technical personnel.
  • Develop Health & Safety documentation and assist in gathering project-related health and safety data.
  • Participate in site meetings, communicate with clients, and serve as the primary liaison for project-related discussions.

Qualifications / Experience / Skills:
  • A degree in a relevant Earth Sciences discipline.
  • A minimum of 4 years of pertinent experience, including at least 2 years in both geo-environmental fieldwork and geotechnical design/assessment (covering slope stability, settlement, retaining structures, earthworks, and reinforced earth).
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and occasionally away from home or during non-standard hours.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, fostering positive relationships across all levels of the organization, clients, and contractors.
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing situations and client needs, with a proactive and positive mindset.
  • Proficiency in soil and rock logging according to current British Standards.
  • Familiarity with relevant UK regulatory guidelines.
  • Experience with software such as Holebase, CAD, QGIS, Slide, and Geo5 is advantageous (training will be provided if necessary).
  • First Aid, Asbestos Awareness, and CSCS qualifications are beneficial (training available).
  • Membership in the Geological Society (or a similar organization) with consideration for becoming Chartered.
  • A full UK Driving License (Category B manual gears) is essential.
  • Must demonstrate the right to work in the UK.
