Job Summary

The Compleat Food Group is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Safety, Health & Environment Manager to join our team in Ebbw Vale, South Wales. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with UK legislative requirements and facilitating the prevention of injury and ill health.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement site-specific safety, health, and environmental improvement plans.
  • Monitor and measure site performance against established safety, health, and environmental metrics.
  • Identify and mitigate safety and environmental risks and hazards across the site.
  • Ensure the site is compliant with all relevant safety, health, and environmental legislation.
  • Develop and implement robust training plans for employees.
  • Manage and improve site safety, health, and environmental performance.
  • Manage site verification and monitoring programs, including audits.
  • Develop and implement emergency response plans and procedures.
  • Provide general safety, health, and environmental advice to employees.
  • Implement and maintain a comprehensive safety, health, and environmental management system.
  • Ensure compliance with reporting and escalation requirements.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and ensure statutory reporting is undertaken.
  • Develop and implement procedures for managing contractors and visitors.
  • Manage employee liability claims.
  • Implement group-wide safety, health, and environmental initiatives and campaigns.
  • Support the Senior Safety, Health & Environment Manager in deploying the company's safety, health, and environmental strategy and systems.
  • Develop, guide, and manage safety, health, and environmental advisors and coordinators.
  • Ensure the site has a functioning safety, health, and environmental committee.

Requirements

  • 5 years minimum experience in safety, health, and environment with a strong background in FMCG manufacturing.
  • Relevant safety, health, and environmental professional qualifications, including a NEBOSH level 6 Diploma.
  • Proven record of success in safety, health, and environment with a strong understanding and exposure to operations, engineering, distribution, and supply chain.
  • Demonstrable experience and working knowledge of safety, health, and environmental management systems, environmental processes, fire and hygiene processes, incident reporting and investigation procedures, auditing, and safety systems and processes.
  • Food safety City & Guilds Level 3 Food Safety and Hygiene (or willingness to complete).
  • Prior experience in formulating, implementing, and revising safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Experience of a Environment Agency Permitted site and the use of F Gas/Ammonia refrigeration.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to apply reason and persuasion to promote action and implement change.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and the confidence to present to groups from all disciplines and levels.
  • Sound understanding of risk assessment techniques and their application in this environment.
