At QinetiQ, we are committed to leading the field in aviation innovation. We are seeking an experienced and qualified Flight Dynamics and Performance Instructor to join our ETPS team of instructors, training the next generation of aviation test professionals at Boscombe Down.

MOD Boscombe Down is a unique operational site featuring the longest military runway in the UK, alongside state-of-the-art facilities such as The Night Vision test house, the environmental hangar, and the UAS test hangar. This is a hub of innovation where you will collaborate with a highly experienced team of flight test instructors.

Key Responsibilities

As a Flight Dynamics and Performance Instructor, you will deliver academic instruction on topics of flight dynamics and performance to aspiring flight test professionals. Your instructional and teaching abilities will be crucial in ensuring that we continue to deliver world-class training to a wide range of students from around the world.

You will deliver instructional sessions, both in person and online, on the theoretical knowledge aspects of a wide range of topics to aspiring and practicing flight test professionals, including Test Pilot, Flight Test Engineer, and Evaluator Aircrew students.

You will play a leading role in maintaining the high standards of aviation safety inherent in ETPS and QinetiQ Civil Flying Organisation (QCFO) flying operations.

There may be opportunities to be involved with other test activities, contributing to developing solutions that enhance the operational effectiveness of the UK's defence capabilities.

Requirements

  • You have an Aeronautical Engineering or Science degree, coupled with at least 5 years of postgraduate experience in the study, teaching, or application of Aerospace Engineering.
  • You will contribute to the development of the ETPS course syllabi, driving continuous improvement, and assist in the development of future ETPS and QinetiQ facilities for teaching flight test professionals.
  • You will possess a sound knowledge of aircraft performance, systems, and stability & control, and their testing, and be skilled in using typical software used for data analysis in the flight test environment.
  • You will hold a teaching/instructional qualification and have experience using synthetics and simulation in flight test programmes.
  • Experience in civil or military flying qualities certification, rotary or fixed-wing, developing or evaluating modern flight control systems, fast jet test and evaluation, heavy aircraft test and evaluation, and undertaking rotary wing test and evaluation, and integrated avionics evaluation would be advantageous.
