Surgical Care Practitioner

About the Role
The Operating Department Practitioner plays a vital role in the surgical team, providing high-quality care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. This position requires a dedicated professional who is skilled in various aspects of patient care, including critical care and infection prevention.
The successful candidate will work closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, and nursing staff to ensure a safe and efficient operating environment. Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting anaesthetists during the induction of anaesthesia and monitoring patients throughout surgical procedures.
- Providing direct patient care before, during, and after surgery, ensuring comfort and addressing any concerns.
- Collaborating with the surgical team to analyse patient needs and adapt care accordingly.
- Demonstrating knowledge of anatomy and physiology to assist in surgical procedures effectively.
- Implementing infection prevention control measures in line with hospital policies.
- Participating in the education and training of junior staff and students within the department.
- Maintaining accurate medical records and documentation as required by hospital protocols.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
- A strong knowledge of critical care practices and protocols.
- A comprehensive understanding of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology relevant to surgical practice.
- Experience or knowledge in paediatrics is advantageous for those working with younger patients.
- Familiarity with working in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) setting is beneficial.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively liaise with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
- A strong commitment to patient care and continuous professional development within the field.
