Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Specialist Clinical Pharmacist to join our Immunotherapy Clinical Pharmacy Team. As a Highly Specialist Pharmacist for Ophthalmology, you will lead, deliver, and evaluate clinical pharmacy services to patients receiving care within the Adult Ophthalmology Service.

About the Role

The successful candidate will work closely with our nursing, medical, and administrative staff to ensure the safe and effective use of high-cost biologic and non-biologic medicines within Ophthalmology. You will support the inpatient care of complex ophthalmology inpatients and our ophthalmic theatres as required. You will attend weekly MDTs and clinically screen medication for patients attending our outpatient infusion suite or receiving medicines directly at home.

Key Responsibilities
  • Represent pharmacy at monthly specialty meetings, including safety, risk, business, and finance.
  • Supervise specialist clinical pharmacists rotating through the specialty and deliver education and training to pharmacy undergraduates, junior doctors, and nurses.
  • Actively participate in SEL ICS Clinical Pathway groups to deliver medicines optimisation to patients inside and outside of hospital.

  • Demonstrate the ability to appropriately recommend, substantiate, and communicate therapeutic options in a range of medical patients.
  • Demonstrate the ability to make clinical decisions in complex patients.
  • Demonstrate ability to implement NICE guidance and other commissioning policies.
  • Demonstrate the ability to deliver medicines optimisation.
  • Demonstrate the ability to accept referrals from other practitioners and professionally resolve these.
  • Demonstrate the ability to review directorate drugs budgets.
  • Demonstrate previous experience in delivering training and education at postgraduate level.
  • Experience of clinical supervision of others.
  • Demonstrable use of clinical audit.

Desirable

  • Demonstrate the ability to appropriately recommend, substantiate, and communicate therapeutic options in Ophthalmology patients.
  • Demonstrate ability to prepare, review, and submit individual finding requests.
  • Previous experience in delivering training and education at postgraduate level.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Vocational Masters Degree in Pharmacy.
  • Higher Degree - Diploma or MSc in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent.
  • GPhC registration.

Desirable

  • Appropriate management short courses.
  • RPSGB Faculty Member.
  • Registered Independent Prescribe.
