Fire Safety Specialist

The City of Bristol College is seeking a Fire Safety Specialist to ensure the University's services and infrastructure are safe, legally compliant and fit for purpose.

This role involves working alongside the Facilities Management team to manage maintenance, remedial works and projects, including managing external contractors and communicating with internal teams and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Organise compliance contractor services and planned preventive maintenance visits to maintain statutory compliance obligations.
  • Monitor and analyse compliance documentation, audits, and Zetasafe data to determine remedial actions.
  • Conduct audits of compliance works by contractors and staff, reporting back to the relevant manager to establish performance and quality.
  • Liaise with facilities management to update them on contractor schedules and potential failures across the estate.
  • Review proposed remedial works and assess costs and risks of non-conformity, providing technical feedback to the Compliance and Contracts Manager.
  • Manage compliance contractors onsite when internal organisation is required to carry out statutory compliance.
  • Lead small fire and life safety projects for replacement assets that have been found to have failed or beyond economical repair.
  • Act as a specialist contact, providing fire and life safety systems guidance on complex legislation and policy changes.
  • Carry out small works on fire and life safety systems when required.
  • Support conducting compliance training and toolbox talks for the direct labour force, enhancing awareness and safety in compliance testing.
  • Contribute to quarterly contractor meetings to review KPIs, health and safety incidents, financial matters, and project updates.

This is an excellent opportunity to play a pivotal role in advancing the University's approach to fire and life safety systems.

Please note that the estimated salary range for this position is £40,000 - £60,000 per annum, depending on experience.
