Job Summary

This role is for applicants in the South West region, specifically in Cornwall, Devon, and Somerset. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading research delivery in their designated specialty, working closely with regional and national networks to drive innovation and improvement in health and care services.

Main Duties
  1. Provide strategic oversight of the regional Research Delivery Network (RRDN) portfolio, ensuring alignment with national priorities and goals.
  2. Support regional portfolio oversight activities, collaborating with the RDN Study Support Service to identify and address impact on regional health and social inequalities.
  3. Identify and address health and social inequalities at all stages of research delivery, working closely with stakeholders to develop solutions and implement changes.
  4. Support the RDN Study Support Service in the planning, placement, and performance monitoring of studies, including eligibility reviews and providing health and/or care intelligence to the on-request study performance service.
  5. Advise on study deliverability and undertake deliverability assessments, considering equitable community-wide access and areas of high patient need.
  6. Build regional capacity and capability for study delivery in their specialty, ensuring local needs for research delivery are identified and addressed.
  7. Participate in projects to address opportunities and challenges identified under the RDN Operating Model for strategic development and Research Delivery Models.
  8. Embed research, engagement, and delivery into the NHS and wider care environment, engaging and initiating relevant regional stakeholders to build regional research delivery capacity and capability.
  9. Assist in the development and mentorship of future/new Principal Investigators across the health and care sector, initiating, facilitating, and promoting regional cross-specialty and cross-setting collaborations for improved research delivery.
  10. Contribute to national and regional RDN strategic development for research delivery, attending national specialty meetings, regional leadership group meetings, and engaging with annual review development processes.
  11. Support the National and NHS E-based Specialty Leads in activities to raise awareness of the Specialty, engaging in and supporting business development activities, including providing health and care research expertise and knowledge to support optimal research delivery in discussions with commercial organizations.
  12. Identify and support the dissemination of RDN impact in their specialty, supporting the NIHR Coordinating Centre to develop topics for commissioned research by providing expert advice on the current RDN study portfolio, innovative research delivery methods, and the needs of all patient and care groups, including under-served communities.
  13. Provide peer reviews on studies for NIHR and regulatory authorities to contribute an expert opinion when needed.

This is a fixed-term contract for three years. The salary advertised for this position reflects the Agenda for Change 2024-5 rates, inclusive of a pay award implemented from October 2024. They will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels. The candidate will also have a strong understanding of the NHS and health and care services, with a commitment to improving patient outcomes and experiences.
