About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical and Electrical Engineer to join our Newbury team at Forterra, a leading manufacturer of concrete and clay building products.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing PPM and breakdown support for our busy production site, including upgrading old and installing new machinery, improving site efficiency, and renovating site facilities.

This is an operational role undertaking day-to-day mechanical and electrical engineering activities within the plant. You will provide technical knowledge and support in the event of equipment and plant failure, ensuring efficient repair and maintenance of plant equipment.

Working as part of the engineering team, you will ensure the efficient operation of all Maintenance functions, aligning with Forterra's Total Productive Maintenance Strategy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Attend to machine breakdowns and diagnose any electrical or mechanical failures
  • Provide Engineering cover to suit business demands
  • Utilize problem-solving skills to adapt to short notice situations
  • Offer accurate information and regular progress updates to management as required
  • Maintain site electrical plant and equipment to meet production and waste budgets
  • Carry out preventative maintenance work orders as needed
  • Record tasks completed during shifts in the electrical log book
About You
  • Previous experience in a similar field, preferably from a manufacturing environment
  • Recognised electrical qualification (apprentice trained, Level 3 or above)
  • A methodical mindset, with the ability to problem solve and adapt with short notice
  • Experience of industrial installations and control systems
  • Fault-finding and testing automated machinery
  • Knowledge of AC and DC drives and PLCs (preferably Siemens S5 and S7)
  • Experience in electronics and instrumentation (advantageous)
  • Effective communication skills
  • A good understanding of health and safety principles
  • A recognised electrical trade qualification, including latest IEE regulations
