Job Summary

Discover is seeking a skilled Application Reliability Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Agile environment, you will focus on ensuring the availability, latency, and performance of our services. Your projects will deliver enhanced infrastructure, development, and deployment automation, while actively managing and escalating risk and customer-impacting issues.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, design, program, test, and deploy new user stories and features with high quality to production.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to Associate Application Engineers, directing their work and helping them grow.
  • Use informal leadership and highly developed communication skills to achieve team commitments and influence others.
  • Oversight design decisions and guide the team to achieve key results for assigned products.
  • Remediate issues using engineering principles and create proactive design solutions for potential failures.
  • Contribute to and lead technology communities at Discover.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • Information Technology, Software Engineering, or related field.
  • Internal applicants only: technical proficiency rating of competent on the Dreyfus engineering scale.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Unix and Bash scripting knowledge.
  • Experience with performance engineering (JVM internal).
  • Coding experience with Python or Java.
  • Experience in production support.
  • Proficient in monitoring, alerting, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems.
  • Good understanding of defining and executing High Availability, Disaster Recovery, Sustained Resiliency, Chaos Engineering tests.
  • Experience in DevOps skills and methodologies.
