Job Summary

Discover is seeking a skilled Application Reliability Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Agile environment, you will focus on ensuring the availability, latency, performance, efficiency, and reliability of our services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze and design new user stories and features with high quality, security, and reliability to production.
  • Lead and mentor Associate Application Engineers, providing learning tasks and work-related guidance.
  • Use informal leadership and highly developed communication skills to achieve team commitments and influence others.
  • Oversee design decisions and guide the team to achieve key results for assigned products.
  • Remediate issues using engineering principles and create proactive design solutions for potential failures.
  • Contribute to and lead technology communities at Discover.

Minimum Qualifications

At a minimum, you should have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Internal applicants only: technical proficiency rating of competent on the Dreyfus engineering scale.

Preferred Qualifications

Bonus points if you have:

  • Unix and Bash scripting knowledge.
  • Experience with performance engineering (JVM internal).
  • Coding experience with Python or Java.
  • Experience in production support.
  • Proficient in monitoring, alerting, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems.
  • Good understanding of defining and executing High Availability, Disaster Recovery, Sustained Resiliency, Chaos Engineering tests.
  • Experience in DevOps skills and methodologies.
  • Experience with Openshift Container Platform, RabbitMQ, Kafka, Jenkins, Java, Unix, PCF, Oracle, MySQL, MariaDB, Gemfire, Postgresql, Redis.
