Senior Finance Advisor for the Racing Industry

Newmarket, Suffolk, United Kingdom Racing Welfare Full time

Racing Welfare is a leading national charity dedicated to supporting individuals working and retired from the British horseracing and breeding industry.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Finance Advisor to join our Finance, Audit & Investment Committee, which plays a crucial role in shaping the charity's financial strategy.

The successful candidate will have a passion for the work of Racing Welfare and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by national organisations in the charity sector.

What you'll be doing:

As a member of our Finance, Audit & Investment Committee, you will attend four meetings per year, twice via video-call and twice in person. You will contribute to discussions on the financial performance of the Racing Welfare group, including £15m of investments, review budgets, challenge management, and provide recommendations to the main board.

You will also be responsible for providing oversight of the statutory audit and considering any current issues or challenges facing this area of the charity.

In addition to committee meetings, you may be required to undertake a one-day induction programme and commit to two additional days per year.

We invite candidates to join the charity for an initial period of three years, with the possibility of progressing to trusteeship after one year.

What we're looking for:

We are seeking an experienced finance professional who has a general finance background and knowledge of the horseracing industry. You will have experience of working with charities, preferably in a senior position, and be familiar with charity SORP.

Alternatively, you may have held a senior position in an audit firm or have equivalent experience.

Please note that this post involves governing and advising on services that have direct contact with young people and vulnerable adults, and therefore requires a satisfactory enhanced DBS disclosure.

Why this role matters:

Demand for the charity's services is higher than ever, and your contribution as a member of the Finance, Audit & Investment Committee will play a vital role in ensuring the charity has the necessary funds to continue delivering its services.

By joining our team, you will be part of a dynamic organisation that makes a significant difference to the lives of individuals working in horseracing, their employers, the horse racing industry, and wider communities.

What's in it for you?

As a member of our Finance, Audit & Investment Committee, you will enjoy working alongside a knowledgeable team of executives, committee members, and trustees. You will have the opportunity to develop your board member skills and may progress to a trustee position after 12 months.

Salary: £60,000 - £80,000 per annum
