Job Title: Food Technology Teacher

We are seeking a highly skilled and enthusiastic Food Technology Teacher to join our team at an Ofsted Good secondary school in West Cornwall.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching students practical skills in food technology, nutrition, and culinary arts, as well as planning, delivering, and assessing lessons in accordance with the national curriculum.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver engaging Tech Food lessons covering a variety of topics, including cooking methods, recipe development, food preparation, and nutrition.
  • Practical Cooking: Lead practical cooking sessions in the school kitchen, guiding students in preparing and cooking a range of dishes while promoting safe food handling practices and kitchen hygiene.
  • Nutritional Education: Educate students about the importance of nutrition, balanced diets, and healthy eating habits, empowering them to make informed choices about their food intake and dietary habits.
  • Food Technology: Introduce students to food technology concepts and processes, such as food preservation, packaging, and food product development, fostering their understanding of the food industry and technological innovations.
  • Assessment and Feedback: Regularly assess student practical skills and knowledge through practical demonstrations, food tasting sessions, and written assessments, providing constructive feedback to support their learning and development.
  • Behaviour Management: Establish a positive and supportive learning environment in the kitchen, implementing effective behaviour management strategies that promote teamwork, respect, and responsibility.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with colleagues within the Design and Technology department and across the school to share best practices, resources, and ideas for enhancing teaching and learning.
Requirements:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification with a specialism in Food Technology, Home Economics, or related field.
  • Strong practical skills and knowledge in food preparation, cooking techniques, and kitchen management.
  • Previous experience teaching Tech Food or Home Economics at the secondary level, preferably within a UK school setting.
  • Enthusiasm for teaching practical skills and promoting healthy eating habits among students.
  • Commitment to providing a safe and inclusive learning environment in the kitchen.
