About the Role
South Reading and Shinfield Group Medical Practice is seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician to join our team. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a vital role in improving the quality and safety of care delivered to patients across our practice.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring regular medication audits are carried out and that key performance indicators for the team are actively monitored, reviewed and achieved. This includes helping to ensure consistent practice in GP prescribing, assisting in the delivery of medicines optimisation and management incentive schemes, and patient safety audits.
You will work closely with local pharmacies, attend weekly GP meetings to provide advice on supply issues, and ensure dose optimisation on medicines. You will also oversee team work for medication switches and synchronisation to ensure safe and effective prescribing.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in pharmacy, with experience of working as a qualified registered pharmacy technician in primary care, community or hospital pharmacy. You will be computer literate with an ability to use the required GP clinical systems and Microsoft office packages.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure regular medication audits are carried out and key performance indicators are actively monitored, reviewed and achieved.
- Assist in the delivery of medicines optimisation and management incentive schemes and patient safety audits.
- Work closely with local pharmacies and attend weekly GP meetings to provide advice on supply issues.
- Ensure dose optimisation on medicines and oversee team work for medication switches and synchronisation.
- Provide advice to GPs, staff and patients on changes to prescribing in order to support improvement of prescribing safety, quality and cost effectiveness.
- Support the practice pharmacists and clinicians with medicines reconciliation in accordance with the practice protocols and update patients medical records and prescriptions.
- Respond to medication queries from patients and staff in a professional manner, referring to appropriate clinician as appropriate.
