QC Laboratory Manager Role Overview

Cranleigh Scientific Ltd, a leading specialist materials business in Cambridge, is seeking a skilled QC Laboratory Manager to oversee the efficient operation of their Mechanical and Chemical Testing Laboratories.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Laboratory Management: Manage the Mechanical (tensile, compression, non-destructive) and Chemical Testing (HPLC) Laboratories to achieve production plans in a timely manner while maintaining safety, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical management support to ensure best laboratory practices and robust test methods with good repeatability to comply with aerospace, quality, and testing standards.
  • Daily Operations: Manage day-to-day QC and IPC Testing laboratory operations to meet testing plan requirements and ensure on-time targets are met.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement of laboratory systems and processes through the QC laboratories, ensuring all test methods and equipment are suitably qualified and validated.
  • Team Leadership: Manage a team of Laboratory supervisors and Laboratory Engineers.
  • Process Optimization: Organize daily staff and shift activities to optimize work throughput and achieve all plans and production requirements on time.
Requirements and Qualifications:
  • A degree-level qualification in Chemistry, Mechanical or Materials Engineering – or closely related.
  • Experience managing a QC laboratory with proven technical ability within a chemical and mechanical environment.
  • Possess a strong background in chemical and mechanical analysis including HPLC, tensile, and non-destructive testing.
  • Sound knowledge of testing practices and procedures (HPLC and DSC included).
  • Team management experience.
Compensation and Benefits:
