As a Statutory Planner at Mount Alexander, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of planning applications, from simple to complex, and contribute to the development of the shire's planning framework. The role requires a strong understanding of local government planning legislation and policies, as well as excellent communication and persuasion skills.

Role Overview:

Mount Alexander Shire is a vibrant and diverse community, with a strong focus on sustainability, community engagement, and economic growth. The Statutory Planner will play a key role in supporting the Council's planning functions, working closely with stakeholders and colleagues to deliver high-quality outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Coordinator of Statutory Planning to lead a small team, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and policies
  • Project manage complex planning applications, coordinating with stakeholders and colleagues to achieve timely completion and high-quality outcomes
  • Develop and implement strategic planning initiatives, promoting sustainable development and community engagement
  • Contribute to ongoing process improvement within the Statutory Planning Team and across Council, identifying areas for efficiency and effectiveness

Requirements include:

  • A recognised qualification in land use planning (e.g. Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning)
  • Extensive experience in statutory planning within local government, with a thorough knowledge of relevant legislation and policies
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with stakeholders and colleagues
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with minimal supervision, to achieve high-quality outcomes and meet deadlines

Salary: $80,000 - $110,000 per annum
