About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic Learning Support Assistant to work in a secondary school setting, specialising in supporting students with Autism and ADHD. Your role will involve working with students aged 11-16, providing crucial support to help them access the curriculum, develop social skills, and achieve their potential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide tailored 1:1 or small group support to secondary school students with Autism and ADHD, both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Assist students in accessing a broad and balanced curriculum, adapting lesson plans and learning materials to meet their individual needs.
  • Work alongside subject teachers to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour management strategies.
  • Help students build confidence, develop social skills, and enhance emotional regulation in a secondary school setting.
  • Monitor and record student progress, reporting regularly to teaching staff, SENCO, and parents.
  • Support students during key transition periods, including moving between lessons and preparing for exams.
  • Use positive behaviour management techniques to manage challenging behaviour in a calm and supportive manner.
  • Encourage students' independence and participation in school activities, including extra-curricular programmes.
  • Work with other professionals (such as educational psychologists and therapists) to ensure that students receive holistic and effective support.
Requirements
  • Previous experience supporting secondary school students with Autism, ADHD, or other special educational needs (SEN).
  • A strong understanding of how Autism and ADHD can impact learning, particularly at the secondary level, including issues related to behaviour, communication, and social interaction.
  • Patience, empathy, and a supportive approach to working with adolescents who have additional needs.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external professionals.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection policies.
  • The ability to manage and defuse challenging situations calmly and constructively.
  • An enhanced DBS check (or willingness to apply for one).
  • Relevant qualifications in supporting teaching and learning (desirable but not essential).
Benefits of Working with Teaching Personnel
  • Competitive rates of pay and flexible working hours.
  • Ongoing professional development opportunities, including training in supporting students with Autism and ADHD.
  • Access to Teaching Personnel's CPD Academy to further enhance your skills and career progression.
  • Dedicated support from a specialist consultant to guide you through the recruitment process and your school placement.
  • The opportunity to work in a supportive and inclusive school environment, making a real difference in the lives of students with SEN.
  • Potential for long-term placements or permanent positions within secondary schools.
  • Work with the UK's largest education recruitment agency, with over 20 years of experience in helping schools and educators thrive.
