Job Summary

Aughton Surgery is seeking an experienced prescribing clinical pharmacist to join our team. As a clinical pharmacist, you will work alongside a team of pharmacists in general practice, improving patient health outcomes and the efficiency of the primary care team.

Main Responsibilities
  • Manage repeat prescriptions, including dealing with queries raised by our prescriptions coordinator.
  • Ensure patients' medication reviews are up-to-date.
  • Reconcile medicines from clinical correspondence.
  • Conduct structured medication reviews.
  • Respond to and action tasks from clinical and administrative staff.
  • Act on MHRA drug alerts.
  • Review and re-authorise newly registered patients' medication from GP2GP transfers.
  • Manage blood pressure and medication for patients with long-term conditions.
  • Amend patients' medication doses based on blood results (Levothyroxine).
About Us

Aughton Surgery is a friendly and supportive environment with a team of 5 partners, 3 salaried GPs, 1 physician associate, 1 practice nurse, and 1 HCA. We are a training practice, regularly hosting GP registrars, medical students, and student PAs. Our clinical staff are assisted by a knowledgeable admin/reception team.

Person Specification
  • Essential:
    • GPhC registered pharmacist.
    • Qualified from an approved 18-month training pathway (e.g., CPPE).
    • GPhC independent prescribing qualification.
  • Desirable:
    • Minor ailments certification.
    • Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
    • Medicines management qualification.
Experience
  • Essential:
    • Minimum of 2 years working as a clinical pharmacist in general practice.
    • Appreciation of primary care prescribing.
    • Awareness and knowledge of common acute and chronic conditions in primary care.
  • Desirable:
    • Clinical and therapeutic knowledge, and understanding of evidence-based healthcare.
    • Broad knowledge of general practice and primary care funding.
