Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Cardiology Consultant in Heart Valve Disease and Echocardiography to join our team at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing expert clinical care to patients with heart valve disease and echocardiography, as well as contributing to the development and implementation of clinical services.

Main Duties
  • Perform outpatient valve clinics independently
  • Conduct inpatient ward rounds for valve and endocarditis patients
  • Be trained and accredited in basic and complex echocardiography, including stress echo, TOE, and intraprocedural structural echo
  • Support the Cardiology Consultant of the Week rota
  • Support the Valve and Echocardiography Consultant of the Week rota for additional Ward Round support
  • Diagnose patients referred to GSTT and partner trusts
  • Continuing clinical responsibility for patients in their charge
  • Be flexible to provide a high-quality service for patients accessing the service

Person Specification
  • Full and Specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC)
  • Experience in echocardiography, including trans-thoracic, stress, trans-oesophageal, and intra-procedural (structural) TOE
  • Experience in management of endocarditis
  • Recent track record of clinical governance, audit, management, and IT skills
  • Understanding of principles of audit
  • MD/PhD or equivalent higher degree relevant to heart valve disease
  • Multiple peer-reviewed publications
  • Track record of research
  • Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, post-graduates, and junior medical staff
