Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced Biomedical Scientist to lead a team of staff in a section of the department, providing a comprehensive laboratory medicine service to all Health Services Laboratories clients.

Main Responsibilities
  1. To coordinate and participate in the routine processing of specimens, allocating work to other staff members to ensure a smooth workflow.
  2. To ensure that requested investigations are performed in a timely manner for each sample received.
  3. To handle specialized and urgent specimens appropriately.
  4. To participate in technical work as required.
  5. To ensure the maintenance and safe use of equipment.
  6. To assist in developing rotas with senior biomedical staff and ensure their correct operation, providing continuous cover from the start of each day.
  7. To coordinate laboratory consumables and reagents, managing their stock control.
  8. To contribute to audit activities and the maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures.
  9. To be involved in staff recruitment and conduct appraisals as required.
  10. To undertake method development and evaluation as directed by the departmental manager, contributing to service development.
  11. To deputize for the departmental manager as needed.
